In wake of the shutdown call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership, authorities imposed restrictions in various parts of the city to prevent protests.

The areas where restrictions have been imposed include Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, M R Gunj, and partial in Maisuma, Kralkhud police stations to thwart attempts of protest.

He, however, said the restrictions shall not be applicable to government employees, universities, essential services like banks or individuals taking or invigilating examinations. The occupation authorities had placed the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, under house arrest, yesterday, while the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, has been under continued house arrest for the past over eight years.

Heavy deployments of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been made to maintain law and order at sensitive places in the city.
