Thursday's match came down to the wire as Texas A&M beat Tennessee in overtime, 79-76.

Mercedes Russell's double-double couldn't prevent the Lady Vols first loss of the season.

Tennessee raised its defensive intensity towards the end of the first half, holding the Aggies without a field goal over the last six minutes while going on a 12-2 run.

In addition to Alexander's performance, Jordan Bowden turned in a stellar outing, leading Tennessee in scoring with 15 points and grabbing six rebounds.

Texas A&M had more second-chance points with 18, compared to Tennessee's 14.

The Vols are now riding a 3-game win streak after going 0-2 to start conference play. The Vols had 16 assists on 25 baskets, and Tennessee scored 22 points off 17 Aggies' turnovers, while Texas A&M scored only 12 points off 10 Tennessee turnovers. The Lady Vols (15-1, 3-1 SEC) closed regulation on a 8-1 run of their own.

A&M's momentum continued in the early stages of the fourth quarter, as it surged to a seven-point advantage with 6:41 remaining.

Texas A&M has one of the longer front lines in the SEC, and the Aggies made things rough on UT sophomore Grant Williams. On the ensuing possession, Meme Jackson worked her way open for a 3-point attempt to win the game, but the shot was too strong and the teams took their battle to overtime.

The Vols entered the game against Texas A&M with the No. 13 RPI and the No. 3 Strength of Schedule (per ESPN), while the Aggies had the No. 33 RPI.

Williams finally stopped the bleeding with a jumper with 47 seconds left in overtime. The Aggies had three players score more than 20 points, led by Khaalia Hillsman with a double-double at 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Danni Williams with 22 points as well.

The Aggies return to action on Sunday, January 14 to host Georgia at 2 p.m.
