Nintendo Direct Mini January 2018: Here Are All The Games, DLC, And Updates Announced

When a pre-recorded Nintendo Direct presentation dropped out of nowhere on the company's website yesterday, it immediately became one of the top trending stories of the day.

For those unfamiliar, The World Ends With You is an action RPG that was designed for the DS handheld consoles. It will also include a "sizeable new scenario". The game will run on the Nintendo Switch's portable mode as well as the docked mode to be played on home TV screens.

In a recent interview, Nintendo of France announced that the game has sold 73,000 units on Switch in the region. Hyrule Warriors Ultimate Edition will include all of the DLC content from both the 3DS and Wii U, including every map, mission, and character. With infinite levels (you can play this *for ever*), upgradeable weapons, hardcore mode, a unique art style, and music by Fez composer Disasterpeace, Gunhouse from Necrosoft Games will entertain the heck right out of you, maybe.

And, naturally, if a new Super Smash Bros. game ends up hitting the Switch, surely one of its new characters will grace the popular brawler as well. Luigi finally makes an appearance, but only to introduce a new mini-game: Balloon World.

He also believes that this feature will be launched on Xbox One X, touting that it could arrive by late 2018. Pokken Tournament will receive the Deluxe Battle Pack DLC. The "Japanese computer whiz" named Joy will be available first on Switch. Wave 1 will be on January 31 and will bring the new battle character Aegislash along with the support set Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu. Exactly one month later comes Nintendo's first offering, Kirby Star Allies, a new platformer based on abilities and ability combos.

New footage showed off Friend Abilities, which allow you to merge two copy abilities to create a new effect. It involved planning and executing heists, drug trafficking and other heinous activities with different kinds of gameplay to accompany the first-person perspective.

Two other big exclusives were announced last year but have yet to be dated, bringing Fire Emblem and a new Yoshi title to Switch.

Aside from these announcements, the show mostly focused on updates and DLC. It's one of the indie titles in EA Originals. On Switch, it can be played using either the Joy-Con controllers or the touch screen.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be released for Switch on May 4. Though third-parties largely ignored the Wii U, Nintendo put out some good games for it, so here are five more Wii U games Nintendo should port over next.

The DLC is already available, but needless to say, you won't get to use the new Pokémon even if you buy it now. There's been talk about cloud saves becoming a thing when Nintendo launches its paid online sometime this year, and we're still hoping to hear more about it soon. Microsoft's Head of Xbox Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg cited the unpublished sales figures on Twitter earlier today.
