Woman dies in road crash near railway station

A "devoted" mother of an 18-month-old boy has died after the vehicle she was travelling in hit a wall.

Gathurst Road is still closed in both directions between Gathurst Bridge and Gathurst Station.

A 26-year-old woman has died and a man in his 30s was "seriously" injured after the auto they were travelling in crashed into a wall.

In a tribute to her daughter, Lynn Haydock said: "I am totally devastated, such a big part of my life has gone".

Sergeant Jon McColl from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "My thoughts are with the woman's family, this is a tragic incident and I can't imagine what they are going through". This is absolutely heart breaking.

"Our specialist officers are with the woman's family and will be supporting them through this extremely hard time".

Police are appealing for witnesses after a young woman was killed in auto crash.
