Trump 'in excellent health' says White House doctor

Trump himself has pushed back hard against any suggestion that he's mentally unfit, declaring himself "a very stable genius".

Of course, many people have called out the president for his racist remarks.

Mr Trump is the oldest ever person to be elected for a first term as president, though Ronald Reagan was the oldest ever in office at age 77 by the end of his second term.

As he signed a proclamation marking the holiday next week honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., President Trump on Friday recalled the civil rights leader's message that "no matter what the color of our skin or the place of our birth, we are created equal by God".

"He didn't just name a white country, he named the whitest -- so white they wear moon-screen", he said.

Earlier, the government of Botswana had announced that it had summoned the United States ambassador to explain Trump's comments, reportedly made on Thursday at a White House meeting on immigration.

Trump reportedly reacted to a discussion of that last component of the deal by saying: "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" before suggesting the USA should instead allow in more people from countries like Norway.

He has been backed by two Republicans who were at the White House meeting, but Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said Mr Trump called African countries "shitholes" several times and used "racist" language.

Haitians on the island and across the United States, where more than 600,000 Haitians live, offered prayers at ceremonies for those who were killed by the 7.0 magnitude quake that struck on January 12, 2010.

Trump also took issue with the idea that, while a lottery that benefits people from Africa and other nations would be ended, there could be another way for them to apply. Many Africans reminded the United States of its historic role in the continent's woes.

"Why are we having all these people from sh**hole countries come here?"

Raoul Peck, a Haitian filmmaker and former minister of culture, accused Republican lawmakers and Trump voters of "protecting even his most outrageous behaviors", saying that if they do not "stand up to this sickening and suicidal pathology, they will go down in history as not only accomplices, but as James Baldwin would say, as criminals". The Norwegian population numbers 5.3 million in total.

Faso is still hopeful about the talks to create bipartisan immigration reform and wants a solution despite Trump's comments, according to Faso spokesman Joe Gierut. In a now-infamous exchange, CNN's Jim Acosta asked White House immigration hardliner Stephen Miller whether Trump's policies are designed "to engineer the racial and ethnic flow of people into this country".

On Friday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) says he remembers what happened and did not deny that the president said those words. As a young real estate businessman working with his father, Trump and the family firm were sued by the Justice Department in 1973 for discriminating against black applicants for rental apartments.
