Back in 2016, Detective Pikachu released exclusively in Japan as Detective Pikachu - Birth of a New Duo.

Detective Pikachu features everybody's favourite electrical mouse walking the streets of Ryme City solving mysteries.

Playing as the young Tim Goodman, you'll partner up with gruff, battle hardened Pikachu as you investigate the disappearance of Tim's father. It's a little bigger than a regular amiibo figure and can help unlock content in-game to assist you in solving cases.

In this world, Detective Pikachu isn't just special because he's got a jaunty deerstalker cap. Perhaps it's no surprise the game which inspired the film is finally being released in the West. I've never been big on the Pokemon spin-off games, sticking mostly to the main RPG entries, but it could be a lot of fun to play around with. Bizarrely, Pikachu cannot only speak English, but has a somewhat gruff demeanour and a penchant for guzzling coffee. Along the way, he meets Detective Pikachu, a unique Pokemon who can talk. With a new trailer we now know, along with the fact that a new Great Detective Pikachu amiibo is coming as well.

Detective Pikachu will arrive on March 23rd, 2018, and will arrive for the Nintendo 3DS. Sadly, Ryan Reynolds does not appear to be voicing Pikachu.

Detective Pikachu comes to a 3DS near you on March 23.

There's also a magnum sized Detective Pikachu amiibo coming as well, it's twice the size of a normal Pikachu amiibo at 13.6cm tall.
