Deepika's 'Padmavati' officially gets renamed as 'Padmaavat'!

The makers, however, are not sticking to the suggested "Padmavat" and have added another "a", making it "Padmaavat", if we go by the film's official Twitter handle.

Karni Sena members continue to protest against Padmaavat and want a complete ban for Bhansali's film. Moreover, the organisation has made a decision to impose "Janata Curfew" or people's curfew at cinema halls, which chose to screen the movie. The Karni Sena has also demanded the resignation of Prasoon Joshi, the chairman of CBFC.

The title of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus "Padmavati" has been officially changed to "Padmaavat",. At the CBFC examining committee meeting on December 28, it was decided that the movie would be given a U/A certification as long as the makers incorporate the suggestions and modifications suggested.

The protesters said changing the name of the film from "Padmavati" to Padmavat was not enough.

"We appreciate the balanced and considered approach that the CBFC has taken to address this situation", a company spokesperson from Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd said. The disclaimer before any film says that this film is a work of fiction and one of the fundamental human rights is the right to freedom of expression. The Ghoomar song was also asked to be changed to fit the character in it.

"Addition of a disclaimer which clearly makes the point that the film in no manner subscribes to the practice of Sati or seeks to glorify it".

This is not the first time a movie's title has been a figure of controversy. This Bollywood period drama is based on the epic 16th-century poem "Padmavat" by Malik Mohammed Jaisi. The CBFC's process is complete and any further news about cuts etc is absolutely untrue."Padmaavat stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini of Chittor, who committed Jauhar(self-immolation) after Alauddin Khilji invaded her fort. Shahid plays Rawal Ratan Singh, Deepika's husband".

This film got into a controversy after Rajput groups claimed that it distorts history.
