Veteran actor Gary Oldman has revealed that he proposed his wife Gisele Schmidt while dressed as Winston Churchill in a break from shooting his latest movie, "Darkest Hour".

West, who portrays former foreign secretary Sir Anthony Eden, shared a series of behind-the-scenes shots and clips on Twitter to celebrate the film's release.

Alongside a clip of 450 actors playing MPs and singing the hit Beatles track, he wrote: "Been waiting to post this for a year".

War is the grander context, but words are the weapons deployed in Darkest Hour, which exists to honour Churchill's status as a remarkable orator who mobilised the English language to rally his country in a time of necessity.

Gary Oldman sucked his way through nearly $35,000 worth of cigars portraying the UK's cigar-loving Prime Minister Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. "Hope you like it".

The film also stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James and focuses on Churchill's handling of the Second World War.

The role has so far earned Oldman, 59, best actor awards at the Golden Globes Critics Choice awards, as well as a Bafta nomination for best leading actor, and the film is also tipped for the Oscars.
