Comedy actor Bella Emberg dies aged 80

Tributes have poured in for TV comedy actress Bella Emberg, who has died aged 80.

During a television career spanning six decades, Emberg appeared in several iconic programmes including The Benny Hill Show.

Her agent confirmed her to death to the BBC tonight, adding that she would be "greatly missed".

Friend and pianist Bobby Crush said: "Such sad wonderful friend Bella Emberg has passed away".

Les Dennis, who appeared on The Russ Abbot Show, shared a photo of him and Emberg on Twitter.

"A genuinely amusing woman but most of all a woman of enormous warmth and generosity".

Emberg, who was born in Brighton, enjoyed a 60-year career in the entertainment industry, and was arguably best-known for her role as Blunder Woman on the 1980s sketch series The Russ Abbot Show. Meanwhile Chuckle, real name Paul Elliott, who performed in pantomime with Emberg, said he remembered her as "the funniest fairy ever".

In an interview past year, she admitted despite the plaudits that came with the job, it also became a burden.

"After it ended in 1996 I couldn't get work".

One of the series' producers, Charlie Hanson, said Emberg was a "lovely and amusing woman" and a "brilliant" actress.
