ABC sings along to Selena drama

According to Variety, the series will focus on Alex Guerra, an award-winning pop star who has been estranged from her family for five years. ABC Studios produces alongside Davila's Campanario Entertainment and Braun's SB Projects.

Even though the Quintanillas blocked Chris Perez from turning his book, To Selena, With Love, into a TV series in 2017, the family is gearing up to create its own show, inspired by La Reina de Tejano.

As a put pilot commitment, viewers can be certain at least the first episode of the series will air. She tries to pick up the pieces of her broken relationship with her family after a crisis forces her to return home. Alex finds herself back in Texas, juggling a love triangle, the demands of her career and the dark secrets of the family that she desperately wants to win back.

"We are excited to come on board as producers on an ABC music driven, Latino family drama that celebrates Selena's musical legacy with a lead character whose music and career is inspired by Selena", Suzette expressed in a statement.

Selena Quintanilla was murdered in 1995.

Miguel Nolla (Grey's Anatomy) will write and co-executive produce the show.

Selena's brother and sister, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga and Abraham Quintanilla Jr., will serve as producers. Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun will also executive produce the project, which will air on USA network ABC.

"This project gives us all an opportunity to showcase a successful, aspirational Latino family in a way that is not now represented on television", said Davila, president of Campanario Entertainment.
