"I would be happy if it were to happen but I frankly do not think it will", he said.

He further said to equal the previous Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's ten year average, the country's economy will have to grow at 10.6 per cent in the fifth year.

"Whoever faced corruption allegations during UPA was dealt with strictly, but the same can not be said about BJP, they have not acted on corruption in their rule", Singh said while addressing a programme in poll-bound Gujarat's Rajkot.

He said that, in 10 year UPA rule, strict action was taken against those who had corruption charges on them. The Congress leader criticised the BJP for not doing enough to tackle allegations of corruption levelled against the party leaders.

On the National Security front, Mr. Singh had said that our national security has been hurt by the inconsistent foreign policies of this Government. Singh had earlier denied these claims. Manmohan Singh said that Modi never discussed with him regarding Narmada and he also clarified that he never refused to meet Modi as CM.

While addressing a press conference, Dr Singh said, "The people of Rajkot trusted the Prime Minister and believed in the policy of demonetisation in the hope that their sacrifice would benefit India".

The polling to 182 Assembly seats in Gujarat will be held on December 9 and December 14.
