Apple's iPhone remains the most popular camera used by the Flickr community, the photo-sharing site revealed today in its annual review of camera rankings and top photos. According to the Yahoo-owned photo and video hosting website, iPhones remained the dominant camera models with 54% of the top 100 devices being named iPhone and "an nearly clean sweep of the top 10 Devices of 2017, accounting for 9 our of the top 10 devices". The only non-iPhone camera in the top 10 was the Canon 5D Mark III, which placed #9 in 2017. All of the numbers in this study are based on usage from Flickr's 75 million users. The smartphone continues to push out point-and-shoot devices. Many professionals also often turn to iPhone for their higher-quality photos thanks to Apple's improvements to the smartphone's camera.

This year, iPhone has scored the majority (54%) of usage on Flickr's site, up from 47 percent of the top 100 in 2016, and 42 percent the year prior. The Canon 5D Mark II was in the top 10 past year, but it has since dropped out and been overtaken by yet another iPhone model. Behind Apple's best-selling device, comes Canon in second place with 23% and Nikon rounding out the top three with 18%. That remained true in 2017 as well, with the release of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

At this point, DSLR photography also picked up the pace and amped-up its share to 33 percent from 28 percent. This category has seen the biggest drop of the year at 12 percent down from 48 percent in 2016 - a massive decline. Mirrorless remained at 4% of total uploads for the third year in a row.
