IIT Dhanbad students wait for their turn during the placement session on their campus on Thursday

The hiring spree included 25 worldwide companies with the first phase of placements commencing on Dec 1 until Dec 15 while the second one will begin in January, Business Standard reported.

The prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) is not only known for excellence in academic standards but also for maintaining high values and ethics, as contrary to the other institutes which take pride in declaring the highest paid jobs bagged by their students in the campus placements, the IIT-D follows the policy of not mentioning the high-value packages in their placement.

"However, some students, who bagged worldwide placements on December 1, preferred to opt for other options in India", the institute said, as quoted by Hindustan Times. Among global offers, a maximum of six offers were from Microsoft on day one.

The worldwide offers came from companies in Singapore, Hong Kong, United States, Amsterdam and Japan. Among national recruiters, 30 offers came from INTEL.

The IIT did not reveal the exact worth of the high-value packages, saying it felt undue publicity on the matter would devalue national placements over the global placements, among others. We try to ensure that all kinds of job profiles get a fair representation in the roster. It felt that undue publicity given to packages have the effect of devaluing national placements over global placements as well as core jobs over finance and consulting jobs.

I.N. Kar, Professor-in-charge of placement at IIT Delhi said: "Placements had started on a very optimistic note this year".

Over 300 organisations across sectors offering over 500 job roles have already registered for placements in the coming few days. Nikhil Chaturvedi has got an offer with Microsoft at their Redmond office in the US. The phase 1 of the placements will continue till December 15 afterwards the phase 2 will commence from January 2018.
