“The Girl In the Spider's Web”: “Borg/McEnroe” Star Takes Over Mikael Blomquist Role From Daniel Craig

Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist took on the lead roles in the original Swedish films, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, which were all released in 2009.

According to Variety, Icelandic actor, Sverrir Guðnason will be starring in "The Girl in the Spider's Web", a new instalment in the Millennium franchise by Swedish author Stieg Larsson. Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049) plays Salander's twin sister while Claes Bang (The Square) plays the film's villain.

The film is slated to begin production in Berlin and Stockholm in January, before hitting theaters October 19.

The screenplay is by Steven Knight and Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu, based on the global bestseller written by David Lagercrantz. Amy Pascal and Elizabeth Cantillon are producing the flick in association with Scott Rudin and Yellow Bird.

The Girl in the Spider's Web will be the first in the best-selling series to be produced into an English-language film in its initial adaptation.

EW has confirmed that Norwegian actor Sverrir Gudnason has been cast as the crusading journalist who teams up with hacker heroine Lisbeth Salander in Sony's upcoming sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Sony's Columbia Pictures retains the rights to all future Millennium Series books.

Gudnason is relatively unknown in the US but will soon be seen opposite Shia LaBeouf in the tennis drama Borg/McEnroe.
