A robber reportedly rushed into the restaurant and demanded money from the father.

A San Antonio father shot a man dead after the man threatened his family with a gun at a Popeyes restaurant on Wednesday (6 December), police said.

The incident happened at the 800 block of Southeast Military Drive.

"He was threatened by the robber, who was displaying a gun", San Antonio Police Department Captain Michael Starnes said. The father of the family refused to give the suspect anything, so the would-be robber then turned to the employees, who ran out the back of the Popeye's.

Police later learned that the heroic father was licensed to carry a firearm.

According to the Associated Press, the father is a licensed handgun carrier.

His body could be seen between the dining area and counter as investigators examined the scene.

Starnes said the father wasn't facing charges.

"He really saved the day and protected a lot of people today", Starnes said.
