Doctors saved the life of a mangled Elf on the Shelf after he came to a Florida emergency room.

After Jenn Thelan woke up to her 7-year-old daughter, Aubrie, screaming, she immediately saw a gory site: the family's 2-year-old German Shepherd, Zoey, had gone to town on the family's Elf on the Shelf named Sam after snagging him off a low-hanging wreath.

Thelen, a nurse manager at Arnold Palmer Hospital, told her daughter that she would take the elf to work with her and allow the doctors to perform surgery.

Once she arrived at the hospital, Thelen says Sam was rushed into a trauma bay, where hospital staff went to work.

Sam was scooped up in a towel and brought to mother's coworkers for some lighthearted fun. The team used expired medical products to work on Sam and even used a special pair of Santa's magic gloves. He was stitched and bandaged up before being sprinkled with magical red glitter to help with post-op recovery.
