The new generation upgrades also extend to Grand Theft Auto Online, an ever-evolving Grand Theft Auto universe. It's set to get one of its biggest pieces of content to date with the launch of a new online heist that arrives next week on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

For a while there it seemed like there weren't going to be any more heists released for GTA Online, or at least not free ones, but Rockstar has announced an early Christmas present. Titled "The Doomsday Heist", the new mission features James Bond-style jetpacks, an underwater-faring Lotus Esprit-esque vehicle, flying DeLorean-type cars and more jawdropping mayhem than you can shake a stick at.

Doomsday Heist brings together "a billionaire tech mogul, an idealistic intelligence agent, a socially awkward conspiracy theorist and a neurotic supercomputer" in order to save San Andreas from destruction.

Grand Theft Auto Online: The Doomsday Heist looks completely bonkers and will be available from 12th December. "As apocalyptic threats mount from enemies unknown, you and your criminal crew are enlisted to untangle mysteries and eradicate threats spanning from the bustling streets of downtown Los Santos to the ocean floor and all the way to the inner depths of Mount Chiliad". In 2015, Rockstar suggested that new heists weren't on the cards any time soon.
