Jude Law Heads For Captain Marvel

In the comics, she spent decades operating under the name Ms. Marvel, before taking the title of Captain for herself in a series of comics by Kelly Sue McCormick starting in 2012. As a result of the accindent, Carol's human DNA fuses with Mar-Vell's DNA (because comics) and she ends up with all of his powers.

Captain Marvel finally arrives in March 2019 and it will herald a new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not only because it arrives on the cusp of the May 2019 culminating megamovie in the (untitled) Avengers 4, but because it will finally see a female headline a Marvel solo movie.

Brie Larson may have a new sidekick.

The most recent screenplay is by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider) working from previous drafts by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman.

Under his secret identity as Dr. Walter Lawson, Mar-Vell ends up working for the military at the same base where Air Force pilot Carol Danvers is stationed. It will also feature the Skrulls, shapeshifting aliens who rule an empire that serves as the Kree's rival. Carol Danvers doesn't exactly have a great track record with her relationships, with a good number of them ending up dead. The significance of the film can not be understated as it is the first female solo-outing for a Marvel superhero after a slew of male-centric features.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who co-directed Half Nelson, will direct the movie with Kevin Feige is producing.

Ben Mendelsohn is set to play the villain in the motion picture, and Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury. In the time since then, Carol has taken on the mantle of the deceased Mar-Vell and became the true Captain Marvel, which is where she is expected to be in present-day MCU.
