Zendaya Will Play First African-American Woman to Graduate from Vassar in 'A White Lie'

Thanks to Zendaya and Witherspoon, A White Lie will be headed by its all-woman team: women producers, a female star, and a woman writer and screenwriter.

Zendaya is set to produce and star in the upcoming thriller A White Lie, as the first African-American woman to graduate from Vassar College. Based on the book The Guilded Years by Karin Tanabe, the film will be produced by Reese Witherspoon, as reported by Billboard. The daughter of a janitor, she passed as white so she could attend Vassar at the turn of the 20th century.

The movie will show Hemmings fully immersing herself into upper-class NY society, where she's treated as a wealthy white woman.

Zendaya will take on the role of Anita, and will also produce with Reese and Lauren Neustadter under the Hello Sunshine production banner. There will also be a love story involved in the film, as Hemmings found romance with a Harvard student.

Not only is she an bonafide moviestar starring in hit films like Spider-man: Homecoming and its untitled sequel, but she has sprinkled that Black Girl Magic (as a producer and actor) all over the runaway Disney hit KC Undercover. Monica Beletsky is penning the script.

She will also be co-starring in the musical The Greatest Showman in December alongside actors Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron.
