Socceroos World Cup Qualifier Against Honduras Officially Sold Out

The Socceroos have booked a place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation.

The Socceroos had been held to a goalless draw in the first leg in San Pedro Sula last week but had a trio of second-half strikes from the skipper in Sydney to thank for securing their ticket to Russian Federation. However his first, a deflected free-kick, was later awarded as an own goal.

Honduras' Bryan Acosta, who escaped a handful of yellows throughout the match, was eventually pinged for handball inside the box.

Honduras' desperate push for a response left them exposed at the back, and Jedinak was on hand to convert his second spot-kick of the night after Johnny Palacios brought down the advancing Robbie Kruse.

The Aston Villa midfielder benefited from a big slice of luck on 54 minutes as his free-kick took a huge deflection off Henry Figueroa.

And the midfielder claimed a second penalty late on when Robbie Kruse was brought down by Palacios, with Jedinak slotting home to secure Australia's place at the World Cup finals in Russian Federation.

It proved to be a memorable night for captain Mile Jedinak, who scored all three of Australia's goals, in the 53rd, 72nd and 85th minutes.
