Beverly then made a decision to transfer to NC State but was initially forced to sit out a year per the NCAA's transfer rules-if a player who has not graduated transfers from a Division I school to another Division I school, he is forced to sit out a year-even though he had only taken summer classes at Ohio State and never competed nor practiced officially with the team.

Beverly originally committed to play at Ohio State, a program that's fallen off a cliff in the past few years.

After having two appeals denied and hiring a lawyer to fight the NCAA, freshman guard Braxton Beverly will finally suit up for the Wolfpack Tuesday night. When longtime head coach Thad Matta walked away from the school this summer, the move screwed over Beverly, who had already started taking classes at OSU (which is normal for many top recruits).

Scott Tompsett, Beverly's attorney, released a state that said the freshman is "absolutely thrilled" by the NCAA's decision. Therefore the NCAA ruled the four-star point guard would have to sit out the entire 2017-18 season just like any other transfer would.

After a waiver request and subsequent appeal, Beverly was still ineligible. An NCAA spokesman did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Among those pleased with the NCAA's decision is Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith, the man whose decision to fire Matta unintentionally left Beverly's freshman season in jeopardy. Both Matta and Smith have expressed support for Beverly throughout this process.
