A Celebration of Life Ceremony was held in Florida on Tuesday evening in honor of the late Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay.

The eight-time All-star and two-time Cy Young Award winning major league all-star pitcher died in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico off of the coast of Florida last week. Roy Halladay remembered for his hard work and generosity " We remember him as an fantastic father, loving husband and loyal friend, " his family said in a statement Thursday.

"We remember him as an incredible father, loving husband and loyal friend", his family said in a statement Thursday. "He described each achievement as a team effort rather than an individual accomplishment, a true testament to his character and love for his teammates".

Halladay pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1998 to 2008 and for Philadelphia from 2009 to 2013.

He spent the next four seasons with Philadelphia, pitching a ideal game in 2010 en route to winning the National League's Cy Young Award.

In retirement he picked up flying and coached youth baseball. "Roy was selfless in every aspect of his life".
