Japan GDP Gains 0.3% In Q3

Japan's real gross domestic product for the July-September quarter rose 0.3% over the previous quarter in seasonally adjusted terms, according to preliminary numbers released by the Cabinet Office on Wednesday.

This marked the seventh straight quarter that GDP has risen. Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast a 1.3 percent expansion. But growth slowed from a 2.6 percent annualized rate of growth in April-June.

Nominal; GDP gained 0.6 percent on quarter - in line with expectations and unchanged from the previous quarter. The largest contributor was net exports, which boosted quarter-over-quarter growth by 0.5 percentage points, while the largest drag was from household consumption, which deducted 0.3 percentage points. Bad weather during the quarter may have hurt spending, the official said.
