Actor Keith Barron has died at the age of 83, it has been confirmed.

Barron enjoyed a "long and varied career" the statement said, adding the actor is survived by his wife of 58 years and his son, Jamie, also an actor.

But it was Duty Free where he garnered his reputation as a much-loved star.

Sherrie Hewson and Keith Barron photographed together in 2000.

However, he will probably be best remembered for his role in the classic sitcom "Duty Free", in which he played David Pearce from 1984 and 1986.

In 2014, he toured with fellow original cast members Taylor and Stacy in a stage version of Duty Free.

He also appeared in Coronation Street, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), A Touch of Frost, Doctor Who, Casualty and recently harked back to his Duty Free era by appearing in Benidorm in 2009 as the Deputy Mayor.

Barron's final TV appearance was in 2016 on DCI Banks, in which he played Arthur Banks in ten episodes.
