Officials with Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada said in a Facebook post that the resort would open Friday.

What amounted to blizzard conditions at times Monday at Crystal Mountain deposited enough snow for the ski resort to announce a Wednesday opening - for sure, this time.

"Unfortunately the strong winds have blown a lot of the snow that has been falling off the upper ridges so we still need just a little more snow to open the upper mountain", Crystal officials wrote on its website.

Lack of snow is forcing Vail to delay opening one week.

The upper mountain will remain closed because more snow is needed, but Crystal says it hopes to open the Rainier Express, Green Valley, and the Mount Rainer Gondola starting Friday.

Vail Mountain announced Tuesday morning that Opening Day has been postponed to Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23). Blackcomb Mountain will open as scheduled November 23 - just in time to celebrate U.S. Thanksgiving.
