The investigators said that the shooting started a one location then moved to near Tehama Elementary School. Johnston told local media at least three people are dead, but did not elaborate if any students were among the dead.

An employee with the Corning Unified School District said there were reports of an active shooter at the school, and there were confirmed injuries. "Multiple students" were airlifted from the scene, with a 6-year-old reportedly among the injured.

A six-year-old child with two gunshot wounds was reportedly taken by helicopter to a hospital.

KCRA reports officers are investigating at least five scenes in the school and the surrounding area.

Rancho Tehama Elementary is reportedly now in lockdown. Rancho Tehama is southwest of Red Bluff.

Rosie DeOliveira, administrative assistant at the association, said that deputies have instructed the community to "shelter in place", stay indoors and stay low.
