Friends, family, and members of the Somerville Police Department will gather Friday morning to give their final goodbyes to fallen officer Louis Remigio.

Authorities say Remigio died Sunday morning when a Mercedes driven by 18-year-old Michael Ricci, of Burlington, hit him head on. He died at the hospital the next day.

In a statement read by Somerville Police Lt. James Polito, Remigio's daughters, Danielle and Alexandria, described his dedication to his family and the community he served.

Daughters Danielle and Alexandra lost their mother past year to an illness and said their father worked harder after that to make sure their family traditions stayed alive.

"He worked hard to make sure all our traditions were kept, despite it being that much harder to continue even when missing such an integral part of our family", the daughters said in the statement.

Law enforcement officers from across the region lined up their motorcycles on nearby streets as five MBTA buses unloaded hundreds of uniformed cops outside the funeral home.
