Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was unseated as the SP chief by Akhilesh Yadav in January, moved in a golf cart with his son and waved at excited party workers.

Asked about his relations with his father today, Akhilesh Yadav appeared to suggest that Mulayam was only seeking to correct him.

For the first time, the 44-year-old also spoke on his strained relationship with his father and party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and said differences were healthy and prevailed in many families. After paying floral tributes together at Lohia's statue, the father-son chatted amid slogan shouting by party workers.

Both had come to Lohia Park to pay their respect to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia on his death anniversary.

As the father and son chatted on stage during the function, Mr Shivpal Yadav was conspicuous by his absence. "There is fight of ideologies in every family", Akhilesh Yadav said, apparently referring to critical remarks made by Mulayam Singh Yadav in the past about his functioning. Earlier this morning, Mulayam Singh Yadav had visited the Lohia Trust office here and paid tributes to the socialist leader alongwith Shivpal Yadav.

"If a father glosses over his son's mistakes, the child may lose way..." Days before the convention, Akhilesh had met Mulayam at his residence in Lucknow. A riled Mulayam Yadav, 77, did not participate in the UP elections in which his son suffered a massive loss at the BJP's hands.

Apparently to send a message that "all is well" in the Yadav clan, Akhilesh Yadav had in Agra said that his estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav had blessed and congratulated him over the phone.

Mulayam's endorsement particularly after a internal fued lasting several months, has strengthened Akhilesh's position over the party's cadre, leaving no other option for Shivpal but to mend ways with his nephew. It was the very public spat between Mr Akhilesh Yadav and Mr Shivpal Yadav in the past one year that had caused an nearly vertical split in the party with Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav throwing his weight behind his brother. The people of the state are waiting for an opportunity to vote SP back to power", he said."We have to prepare for the 2022 assembly elections too.
