JK: Search operation launched after gunshots heard in Pulwama

Dar was apprehended in a joint operation of the Army, police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Police has arrested Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant Gulzar Dar, who was involved in a grenade attack on senior PDP leader and Works Minister Naeem Akhtar at Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district last month in which three civilians were killed and 30 others injured, a police spokesman said.

While Akhtar had escaped unhurt in the attack on his motorcade at Tral bus stand, three civilians had been killed and 30 people, including seven CRPF and two police personnel, injured.

The Jammu & Kashmir Police on Friday detained Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Gulzar Dar in Pulwama district's Tral. "The fire was returned by the troops and during the exchange of fire, militants escaped from the area taking advantage of the dense forest area", they said.

The spokesman said Gulzar was earlier active with JeM in 2014 and had lobbed a grenade at bus stand Tral in which five persons lost their lives.

"During the searches, militants fired on the search party".
