One particular training program is offering 50,000 Udacity scholarships for Android and web development, split between developers with no qualifications and those who already have experience.

Google plans to donate $1 billion to nonprofits through its charitable arm, Google.org, with the aim of addressing the gap between the skills required by modern companies and the skills that are taught in schools.

The company will also provide $1B in grants to global nonprofits. The money, distributed over five years, will go towards organizations working on "three key areas" Google thinks will "boost opportunity".
