Far Too Early For Relegation Talk Says Clement

Paul Clement brushes off talk of Swansea being in a relegation battle

Paul Clement insists it is far too premature to label Swansea relegation candidates.

Swansea City manager Paul Clement has rejected suggestions that his side are in a relegation battle despite sitting in the bottom three after seven games of the season.

Swansea have endured a hard start to the Premier League season, winning just one of their seven games, and the club that narrowly avoided relegation last season are languishing down in 18th position. When I first arrived at the club (in January) they were writing us off, and when there were five games to go and it (relegation) was between us and Hull the pundits were saying "Swansea are down".

"It is much too early to say we are in a relegation battle".

'People said we were down, but it made no difference, we knew what we had to do then and we know what we have to do now.

'Some good results and things will look a lot better and a lot healthier.

"When you add in four or five others it will take time to integrate them".

Huddersfield are another newly-promoted side that we face at home this season, and with Manchester United as the only exception, all of the opposition we've faced at home have been beatable. "I expect them to show an improvement and I believe we will be better in the second half of the season than the first, but we need points now because we do not want to be in the same position as last season".
