The Black Swan in Oldstead, run by Tommy Banks, Britain's youngest Michelin-starred chef, and his brother James held off competition from celebrity chefs to secure the top spot.

The Black Swan came ahead of Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons in New Milton, Oxfordshire.

It marks the first time a United Kingdom restaurant has topped the world category since the awards began in 2012, and ends the two year reign of Martín Berasategui in Spain which had held the title since 2015.

In the years since, they and their parents have transformed a quaint Yorkshire pub into the world's best-rated fine dining restaurant. This restaurant is truly a box of delights.

The TripAdvisor website describes the Black Swan as: "A tantalising trip for the tastebuds. The flavours, combinations of ingredients and skill in putting together the menu are joyous".
