Spencer on Xbox One X: "It's Not For Everybody"

Like a fat kid at a buffet with rich food, PS4 players gobble up all the good games before any starving Xbox One players can even take a whiff, and even when Microsoft do get their hands on a tasty exclusive like We Happy Few, Sony nearly immediately snatch it and force them to share.

The Xbox One X is only one month away now, and during The Brazil Game Show Xbox chief Phil Spencer talked to GameSpot about the console, admitting that it'll be more niche than the Xbox One S.

"I have a real struggle making comments about their motivation or timelines".

Microsoft mentioned that they will have a collection that will be revealed later, although players should not expect as many backward compatible games of the Xbox 360. I know the games that are coming for the original Xbox but I don't think we've announced them all.

"We talk to Sony all the time".

"The relationship with Nintendo on this front has been strong".

This candid admission was pretty clear to anyone watching from the sidelines, but it does raise a few questions regarding the Xbox One's 2017 - if Microsoft were aware that the Xbox One X wasn't going to be a killer in terms of sales, then why has the Xbox One been left out in the cold for the majority of the year? "Their number one form of entertainment, and we want to give them the very best experience". "They should talk about what their view is..."

The Xbox One X has been described by Microsoft as the first "true 4K" console, with the company having spent the past 12 months putting all of its marketing weight on it and neglecting to release any major exclusives in the process. What are your thoughts?
