Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas will be swapping the Cobbles for Ramsay Street when he joins Neighbours next year.

Thomas, 33, said of his new role: "I grew up watching Neighbours so to get the chance to join the cast is fantastic".

He's set to make a mark Down Under as soon as he arrives on-screen, with producers promising the dark plot line will "see him confront a hard chapter from his past". "I was on holiday with my daughter when I got a call from my agent about the part".

Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor at Channel 5 added: "With his good looks and Corrie years under his belt, Ryan is the ideal handsome devil".

"I spoke to the producer and found out more - it was different from anything I'd played before", he added.

"His arrival in Erinsborough marks the start of darker times for a particular Ramsay Street favourite". He'll first hit the screen in early 2018.

Ryan, brother of Emmerdale's Adam and Love Island's Scott Thomas, said he can't wait to start filming.

Last month, it was reported that Ryan was Ramsey Street-bound, and would be playing the part of Raphael Humphreys in the Aussie soap, a year after stepping down from his role in "Corrie".

Ryan will play the role of Rafael Humphreys a loner, with dark secrets, who comes to Ramsay Street to confront a hard chapter from his past. Prepare to be gripped'.

Neighbours airs Monday - Friday on Channel 5 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm.
