Storm signals up over northern Luzon as 'Odette' intensifies

"TD Odette may intensify into a Tropical Storm before making landfall over Cagayan-Isabela area" by early Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its Thursday 8 a.m. weather advisory.

Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba on Thursday issued a notice suspending classes from pre-school to senior high school in both private and public schools based on a recommendation by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO).

A tropical depression (TD) heading its way to the northern Philippines threatens to gain strength and become a tropical storm, the national weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday. It is forecast to move west northwest at a speed of 26 kph.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas because of the tropical depression.

Tropical cyclone warning signal No. 1, meaning winds of 30-60 kilometers per hour are expected in 36 hours, is up over Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Ifugao.

Mindanao, on the other hand, should expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies, apart from isolated rain showers, mostly in the afternoon or evening.
