Atlas Fire moves into Solano County, prompting evacuations

The huge and growing Atlas fire, which began burning in Napa County, doubled in size overnight and the flames are now moving south toward Fairfield, a North Bay Area city along Interstate 80.

The fire had crested the ridge at Twin Sisters Road, north of Green Valley and northwest of Fairfield. Tuesday evening, it was expanded to include Gordon Valley, Williams, Lambert and Clayton roads.

Due to continuing poor air quality and the unpredictability of fires and wind in our area, we have made a decision to cancel classes and all student activities Thursday, October 12th, and Friday, October 13th, 2017, for ALL schools in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District.

The area of Upper and Lower Green Valley are under mandatory evacuations in Solano County.

Many people in the city are anxious.

More than 150 evacuees have been helped at Solano Community College since the Salvation Army opened up the shelter on Monday. Animals are not permitted in the evacuation center, but there is a large animal evacuation center set up at Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo at Gate 6, Emergency Services reported.
