20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment announced release dates for the four Avatar sequels back in April. Cameron will also produce with Jon Landau.

Avatar 2 is now slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2020, with the additional three follow-ups releasing on December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024, and December 19, 2025. Avatar 2 stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, Sigourney Weaver, CCH Pounder, Cliff Curtis and Oona Chaplin. Then there will be a three-year break in releases, as the fourth film opens on December 20, 2024, and the fifth Avatar movie is scheduled for a December 19, 2025 release. That said, budgets of this size are commonplace for Hollywood blockbusters, with films like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and The Hobbit trilogy all costing around $250 million individually.

Cameron confirmed that Lang was returning from the dead as the original movie's Big Bad Colonel Miles Quaritch, and will be the series' main villain for the sequels. The sequels will have a lot of new locations, but it will still focus on the familar characters from the first movie. Same guy. Same motherf*cker through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better.

According to Deadline, the upcoming Avatar sequels, which began filming today, have a combined budget of over $1 billion. Are you looking forward to seeing more of James Cameron's franchise?
