Olympic leader confident Games will go on in South Korea

Paris: With Paris set to be awarded the 2024 Olympics, one of the organisers' biggest challenges will be to keep within budget - a challenge that has defeated so many of their predecessors.

Ban Ki-moon, the newly elected chief of the ethics body at the International Olympic Committee, said Sunday he feels a heavy responsibility taking the job, but will try to improve the transparency of the organization.

The LA Games have a budget of $5.3 billion and will essentially follow the plan they had in place for 2024, including housing athletes at the UCLA campus.

International Olympic Committee sports program commission chairman Franco Carraro outlined the proposal to the Session in Lima, Peru, seeking no changes to the sports program following what he deemed "really successful" games in Rio de Janeiro previous year.

Both campaign teams summarized their bids in presentations at the 131st IOC Session in Lima, Peru, before the IOC voted to formally confirm the announcements.

Paris played host to the second edition of the modern Olympic Games in 1900, and then staged the even once more in 1924.

They followed that up with the Games of the 23rd Olympiad, in 1984.

"We continue to prepare for what promises to be a superb Tokyo 2020, congratulate Paris and look forward to working in full partnership with both organising committees and the IOC to ensure spectacular men's and women's Rugby 7s events".

"We're grateful to Los Angeles 2028 for inspiring the BEST students at Gates Street Elementary and making the school campus a more lovely place", said Los Angeles' BEST President and chief executive Eric Gurna.

"I find it very hard to imagine that the bill for 2024 will be below that for Athens and London", he said.

"This historic double allocation is a "win-win-win" situation for the city of Paris, the city of Los Angeles and the IOC".

Paris and LA had been the only two candidates for the 2024 Games after Hamburg, Rome and Budapest withdrew from the race. She is a great role model for the younger generation and we could not wish for a better ambassador for the Olympic Movement in our country.
