But today, Amazon said no city is out in the lead yet, despite Bloomberg News' report that Boston had an edge.

Amazon.com Inc. said there aren't any front-runners yet on its decision to build a massive second headquarters outside of Seattle.

Could Boston be on the verge of luring another big company?

"We're not going to get into a bidding war with another city for something like this", says Mayor Marty Walsh, fresh off his highly-touted courtship of General Electric's corporate headquarters.

This doesn't mean Boston is going to win out, but it sounds like some execs inside certainly hope that's where Amazon ends up.

"We are energized by the response from cities across North America who have already reached out to express their interest", Amazon stated.

The new headquarters would bring a $5 billion investment and 50,000 new jobs over the next two decades to whichever city gets the gig.
