2017 Austria MotoGP Qualifying Results: Marquez on Red Bull Ring Pole

Andrea Dovizioso won a pulsating Austrian MotoGP after holding off Marc Marquez in a dramatic finale at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday.

It was the Italian's third win of the season after his back-to-back victories in Italy and Catalonia in June.

Championship rival Maverick Vinales starts fourth, missing out on a front-row start by a tenth of a second, but was nearly overcome by the Pramac of Danilo Petrucci, who got within 0.026 of the Spaniard.

Three-time world champion Marquez's Honda team-mate and compatriot Dani Pedrosa came third.

Chasing his fourth career championship, Marquez leads the standings and is 16 points clear of Dovizioso with seven races left.

With Lorenzo dropping to fourth position halfway through the race, Marquez and Dovizioso swapped the lead several times until Pedrosa caught up with the leading pair with eight laps to go.

Spaniard Marquez topped the session with a flying lap of one minute 23.235 seconds at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg ahead of the factory Ducatis of Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo, who completed the front row.

It was Ducati's second straight victory on the Red Bull Ring since the Austrian GP returned to the calendar past year.

Dovizioso made it three-wide for the lead on the following straight and was briefly ahead at Turn 4, but subsequently ran wide and handed first back to Marquez. Now riding for Suzuki, Iannone came 11th in Sunday's race.
