Hike Acquires Creo a Bengaluru Based Smartphone and Streaming Media Dongle Maker

Creo, founded by ex-Hikers, was angel funded by Hike Founder Kavin Mittal as well as Palaash Ventures and former British Telecom executive Arun Seth. The Creo team constitutes over 50 members.

Messaging platform Hike Messenger on Friday said it has acqui-hired Bangalore-based technology startup Cero's team of over 50 people.

"The Creo team will begin work on a developer platform to enable third party developers to build services on the Hike platform", a Hike spokesperson said in a statement.

Sai and Shubham are ex Hike employees.

Previously, Creo has launched hardware products that include streaming media dongles and smartphones.

Hike was launched in December 2012 and acquired a user base of over 100 million as of January 2016. Today, Hike has over 300 employees spread across 2 offices in Delhi and Bangalore. In August 2016, Hike raised its fourth round of funding of $175 million led by Tencent and Foxconn at a valuation of $1.4 billion, making it the fastest company in the India to attain a valuation of $1 billion.

The home-grown messaging service is looking to overtake messaging service WhatsApp and mobile wallet company Paytm to become the leading messaging and payment app in the country.

Hike Messenger is backed by investors such as Tencent Holdings and Foxconn Technology Group, among others.
