"We turned this into a podium a year ago, so fingers crossed we've got strong race cars and things go our way in the race".

The race is Sunday.

Dixon was forced to make up for lost time after hitting Australia's Will Power on the third corner of the opening lap and pitting with a puncture.

Josef Newgarden had some fun at hometown star James Hinchcliffe's expense in the Honda Indy Toronto. The American has five career victories, also winning in Alabama in April.

"I thought we had a very fast vehicle, we got a pretty good start, and stayed out of the mayhem", Newgarden said.

"I love beating Hinch in Canada", Newgarden said.

Hinchcliffe is looking for a repeat - or better - of past year, when he started a career-best sixth here and ended up third.

"This finish has been a long time coming", the victor of the 2016 Indy 500 said. "The clouds were looking really dark as you were coming through Turn 5, heading into 6, you'd kind of see them".

"Cleared to race today!"

"We were really at the bottom of the barrel on Friday afternoon, the slowest of the four Andretti cars", Rossi said. I feel like I really extracted the best out of my auto, the best out of my setup today.

Notes: Sebastien Saavedra will replace Mikhail Aleshin in the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports No. 7 vehicle. I mean the support that we feel each and every year is wonderful.

Although the rain played a factor into how Newgarden and his Penske crew strategized for the race, he says this victory feels a little bit easier than his last one in Toronto. "You have confidence with all the guys with experience and who have been around long enough".

So every position and every point matters in the Honda Indy Toronto. "It's going to be hard beating all of those guys, but I will tell you what, when you have got Chevy power, you have Chevy reliability and Chevy fuel mileage - you feel pretty good about things".

Power enters this weekend in fourth place in the IndyCar Series driver standings, 53 points behind leader Scott Dixon, who won the pole in Toronto a year ago. I think you are just going to have to be conservative, but aggressive at the same time.

Dixon and Power came together in the early exchanges - it forced Power out of the race and Dixon limped back to the pits with a puncture.

And while Newgarden and others including Rossi and Hinchcliffe finished their stops, leader Helio Castroneves, who made a tremendous starting move to take the lead from front-row drivers Simon Pagenaud and Graham Rahal, had yet to pit.
