Detroit Pistons point guard Reggie Jackson talks about his new backcourt teammate Avery Bradley at the Auburn Hills practice facility July 13, 2017.

The Detroit Pistons have declined to fully guarantee Michael Gbinije's salary for the coming season, making him an unrestricted free agent, per Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press. The deadline to make a decision on Gbinije was Saturday.

The person requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. The Pistons save more than $800,000 and will eliminate Gbinije's $1.5 cap hit.

The Pistons drafted Gbinije 49th overall in 2016 out of Syracuse. He battled injuries during his rookie season and only appeared in nine games this past year. He spent considerable time with the Pistons' Gatorade League affiliate in Grand Rapids.

With the move, the Pistons have 14 players on their current roster.
