Sri Lankan navy apprehended four Indian country boat fishermen and seized their craft on Sunday night on charges of poaching in the territorial waters of the island nation.

Sri Lanka Navy Sunday arrested four fishermen from Tamil Nadu for allegedly breaching the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

The fishermen along with fishing dhow and fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director, Jaffna for onward legal action.

Further disclosing the matter, the official said that the fishermen arrested belonged to the Jagadapattinam in Pudukottai district.

In third such instance, the Lankan Navy arrested seven fishermen hailing from Mandapam in Ramanathapuram district and impounded two fishing trawlers for cross-border fishing.
