Atletico de Kolkata names Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham as their new coach

Sherringham had scored the equaliser in United's thrilling win over Bayern Munich.

Two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) on Friday appointed former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham as their new chief coach for the next edition.

Mr. Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman of the RP- Sanjiv Goenka Group and the team's principal ownerwas delighted to make the announcement today.

ATK owner Sanjiv Goenka told a press conference: "I am glad to welcome our new coach Teddy Sheringham to the ATK family and strongly believe that it is going to be an enriching experience for him and the boys".

Sheringham was part of United's treble winning season in 1998-99.

"Our endeavour to retain expertise and map out a compact team structure has been enhanced with Sheringham joining the team this season".

The 51-year-old, who won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with the Red Devils, most recently managed League Two side Stevenage.

Sheringham, who made 51 England appearances between 1993 and 2002, joins another former England and United hero Steve Coppell as a coach in India.

Coppell meanwhile left last year's runners up Kerala Blasters this week and will coach Jamshedpur to prepare for the new season in October.
