5 rescued off Cape Cod coast
The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued five people 18 miles south of Nomans Land Sunday after their boat caught on fire.
Four boaters were rescued Sunday afternoon from a 19-foot pleasure craft after it took on water in the Snakehill Channel in Islip near Captree State Park, the Coast Guard said.
After the Coast Guard responded to the scene, they determined that all five people were uninjured.
Upon arrival, the crew quickly spotted the missing mother and her daughter, who were with a member of the Baldhead Island Ocean Rescue team.
It was at that time that the rescuer, who has not been identified, contacted the Coast Guard to report the fire and let authorities know he'd rescued five people.
On the ride back to shore, swells caused the PWC to capsize.
After assisting the ocean rescue member back to the PWC, both units safely transited through the Cape Fear River Inlet to Bald Head Island Marina at approximately 5:50 p.m., where local EMTs were waiting.
