Three days earlier, the two men had escaped from a prison bus in after killing two Georgia corrections officers.

There was a $130,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Rowe and Dubose. "My honest thanks to our local, state and federal law enforcement officers who assisted in the manhunt", Deal wrote.

Donnie Rowe, 43, and Ricky Dubose, 24, were apprehended following a vehicle chase with police about an hour's drive southeast of Nashville, said Stephen Emmett, a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Atlanta.

Deal said the public is safe from these two men because of the tireless efforts of law enforcement. "We will do everything in our power to support their loved ones, and we will not forget their sacrifice and service", he added.

Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Gregory Dozier said, "Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of two of our officers, who are our family, and our priority is to locate these fugitives and bring them to justice for this heinous act against those working to protect the public".

"Earlier tonight, with the assistance of our law enforcement partners in Tennessee, risky fugitives were captured and taken into custody".

Authorities say Dubose and Rowe escaped after killing two prison guards during a bus transport in Georgia.

Less than 24 hours ago, the pair led police on a wild police chase starting in Shelbyville, TN. Sills said investigators were trying to determine how the killers got out of the inmate cage and into the driver's compartment.

"They wrestled with the man and got control of him and threatened both of their lives", Swing said.

The inmates escaped from their prison bus around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 16 between Eatonton and Sparta, about 80 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue were fatally shot.

Sills thanked the Rutherford and Bedford County sheriff's offices and all local and federal agencies that worked to apprehend the men.

The capture put an end to a multistate manhunt that lasted almost 60 hours after the inmates escaped Tuesday morning in central Georgia. Gwyn was not immediately sure who would collect the reward. Authorities earlier captured Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose, two escaped inmates wanted in the slayings of two Georgia prison guards.

Police arrested Ricky Dubose (l.) and Donnie Russell Rowe (r.).

The two men that sparked a nationwide manhunt after allegedly murdering two Georgia corrections officers were in a Rutherford County Courtroom.

The man who held the suspects at bay at gunpoint is set to speak at 5 p.m. Burial will follow in Heritage Memorial Park.

They will be transported back to Putnam County, where Sheriff Howard Sills said each will be charged with escape, motor vehicle high-jacking, burglary, auto theft in Morgan County, Ga.
