Millionaire tells millennials: stop buying avocado toast if you want to own a home

In case you missed it in the flurry of RompHim and Russian Federation news swirling around the Internet, Australian businessman Tim Gurner recently suggested that the reason young people can't afford to buy homes is their love for expensive avocado toast and coffee.

AKA, the only two things that bring us joy in this cruel world.

"When I was trying to buy my first home, I wasn't buying smashed avocado for $19 and four coffees at $4 each", Gurner said. “Were at a point now where the expectations of younger people are very, very high.”. Don't be deprivin' yo'selves. They want to eat out every day; they want travel to Europe every year.

Australian millionaire Tim Gurner was on 60 Minutes in Australia, and had some choice comments about the millennial housing crisis. About a quarter of Australia's millennials own homes in the country.

It is undeniably tough to get on the property ladder these days, and there are many factors that contribute to this. Throughout the day on Monday, Twitter users roasted the real estate mogul for his comments.
