Fans of the franchise will appreciate that Netflix had brought back the Jim Henson Company to complete this vision of a more coherent world that adults can be less creeped out by.

The series will be filmed in the United Kingdom and will again feature Gelflings at its center.as well as new characters created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop and Brian Froud, the conceptual designer on the original feature.

The movie's original concept designer, Brian Froud, will create the new ensemble of creatures for the show.

The series will be comprised of 10 episodes and will take place long before the film's timeline. No release has been set yet. The new series will be filmed later this year, and it will continue the Henson tradition of using advanced puppetry to bring its characters to life. Perhaps it's due to the pedigree of talent that has been signed-on to work on the latest Dark Crystal.

"Now You See Me" director Louis Leterrier will executive produce the series and direct.

Jim Henson Company CEO Lisa Henson stated: "Louis Leterrier is passionate about the world of The Dark Crystal and has an incredible creative vision for the series".

"The Dark Crystal" opened at #3 in theaters, behind "Tootsie" and 'The Toy", but did go on to make over $40M at the domestic box-office. The teaser features a voiceover from an interview with Henson where he talks about the original movie: "It was the most work".

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance does not have a release date yet, but Netflix says the show, which is filming in the United Kingdom, is "coming soon". The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will use similar themes and storylines, but will follow the lives of three different Gelflings trying to save Thra from the evil Skeksis.
