Promotion to Premier League is our reward, says Brighton's Chris Hughton

The Championship leaders will definitely go up if Huddersfield fail to win against Derby County in Monday's late kick-off.

Goals either side of half-time, from Glenn Murray and Solly March, put Albion into a commanding position against Wigan at the Amex Stadium, although a headed goal from Wigan's Nick Powell in the 85th minute set nerves jangling among the home supporters.

It means the Seagulls will soon be playing top flight football next season for the very first time in 34 years. "We must have designs on winning this league because I think that will certainly cement in our players' minds something really, really worthwhile".

Here's the moment Chris Hughton found out it was official.

Hughton's side missed out on automatic promotion on goal difference last season, despite accruing 89 points, and rallying the group after the disappointment of defeat in the play-offs counts as another impressive performance.

"It was an ambition and challenge for me, and they told me straight away that it was the club's ambition to reach the Premier League".

The Seagulls have not played in the top flight since 1983, but will be locking horns with the elite teams once again next season.

Albion will move to 92 points if they beat Wigan this afternoon.

Burton gave their survival bid a boost and leapfrogged Birmingham in the process thanks to a 2-0 triumph built around goals from Lloyd Dyer and Lucas Akins.

The former Crystal Palace man made no mistake with his first-time finish - rifling the ball past Haugaard to hand his side the lead. They had to wait for the result at Pride Park where Derby hosted Huddersfield Town, the only team other than Newcastle who could have caught Brighton.

Blackburn Rovers are now only a point behind Forest, with Sam Gallagher's header earning a 1-1 draw with Bristol City, who have a four-point cushion on the bottom three. It is 11 months since I went into the changing-room at the end of the play-off semi-final against Sheffield Wednesday and the players were on the floor.
